We spent last night in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Went to dinner at a restaurant called Houston's, right on one of the canals that run through town. The City is quite pretty - lots of condos (most of which were shut up tight in anticipation of hurricane season or because it is off-season). Dinner was great and the company was even better. On our way back through we saw a really cool part of town where everyone was walking. Perhaps when we return we can explore that even more.
We walked a little on the beach at night and saw a cruise ship off in the distance. It was warm and a little windy but so nice to walk barefoot in the sand at 9 at night.
After arriving back to our hotel and settling in for the night we were awakened by what sounded like a HUGE explosion. It was thunder. In a matter of minutes it was windy, sheeting rain and thundering. The storms can really sneak up here - one minute it is mild and sunny and the next you are grabbing your towel and heading for cover.
We are checking out shortly and will be checking into the boat in about an hour. Can't wait to see this ship that will be carting us around for the next week.

Erin and Steve,
As I was checking on hurricane Dean, Gordy called to give me you blog address. Glad to know you have been rerouted out of harms way.
This will be fun to watch your progress.
Hope you can connect with Gretchen and Shayna.
