The Fort is actually partially recreated and partially real building from the original Royal Canadian Mounted Police (Northwest Contingent). The Fort was actually located on the river but was eventually moved into the town in early 1800s due to flooding. The Fort represented the start of the RCMP who are known around the world for their efficiency in policing the wild frontier. They reminded me mostly of the Texas Rangers to a point but with a British attitude.
Colby and Grady were given a cloth-fabric book with scavenger-hunt items to find throughout the fort. Colby was more attentive about it
but both had a good time finding the items. At the end they each got an old-fashioned lollipop as a reward. They really liked finding the different objects and learning more about how people lived life in the 1800's.
Unfortunately, about 30 minutes into our visit the fire alarm went off. We still don't really know what happened although we are sure it was not one of us that set it off (honest - all children were accounted for at the time of the incident). The alarm continued to blare for the remainder of our visit - about 35 minutes. The staff seemed unable to to turn off the alarm. The boys had a hard time with with the loud noise but in the end it didn't end up altering our enjoyment of the event. The Fort was really cool - full of interesting information and even real horses!
