We made it to our first campsite and are officially underway with VerHoeven Vacation 2010.
We left town around 12:30 and had to stop at Cabela's (of course) for a little while. We arrived in Mt. Hood (Welches) at around 5:30. I haven't actually seen the mt yet but assume it is there, lurking behind the trees and hills. We are still a little ways from the actual mt but are technically in the rec area.
This campground is very nice with an indoor heated pool, very large meeting spaces and nice lots. It is surprisingly full for the time of year and weather. It is rather on the cold side - but not unbearable. I think it was around 40 degrees when we checked last.
Colby immediately busted out the bike and toured the loop around our campsite. grady proceeded to join him by running, which turned into an all out foot race between brothers. We were commenting on how nice it is that our boys are at an age where they can roam a little farther away and we don't have to worry... when we hear grady go, "eeeew - smoking is GROSS!!!" and pinch his nose while pointing at our neighbor (who was smoking). Perhaps we can give the DARE lectures a break - I think they got the point.
Colby's favorite part of the day has been sitting around the campfire. Grady's favorite was the foot race. Steve enjoyed checking out the M8 Bomber tractor displayed out front of Cabela's.
Right now they are waiting for me to finish so we can officially have s'mores. So I guess I could write another couple paragraphs or.... better go.
Tomorrow we will hike and see the nature around us with a plan to stop for luxurious brunch at Timberline.
