We woke up Saturday morning to more hail and rain and chilly temperatures. So we jumped in the truck and headed to Pig N Pancake for something warm in our tummies. After a large and delicious meal, we headed back to the trailer only to be distracted by a colorful kite shop that was smart enough to open at 9 AM.
We had promised the boys that we would buy them each their own kite as a souvenir for the trip. Of course, we had visions of actually flying and using them on the beach but the weather did not cooperate for that. Nevertheless, the boys did not forget it. So we spent some time lingering in a truly fun and vibrant store. Colby ended up with a pirate kite and Grady got a shark - both really cool with long tails that (according to the store owner) will fly well.
After returning to the trailer, we made the decision to head home instead of continuing to Cannon Beach for another night of rain. I know it feels a little like we gave up but the fun had been had and we were all ready to be warm again and have our own space. We took the road home like we would have - just minus another wet and cramped night.
On the way home we stopped at Tilamook to tour the cheese factory and sample their yummy ice cream. We all had fun watching how the cheese was made, cut, wrapped and processed. Then we thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant for some treats.
The ride home was long, putting us home around 7 pm. But it was a wonderful trips. The boys had fun and didn't always realize how stressed we were or worried about the weather. Which is really good - their simple optimism and joy at doing new things was contagious. This will certainly be a trip that we all remember for a long time.
