Cody the Legend

Today was a most entertaining and wonderful day in old Cody WY. We started with the Buffalo Bill Historical Center and the last 3 museums we did not visit yesterday. First up was the Plains Indians exhibit, which in all truth impressed me. This museum actually shares exhibits with the Smithsonian and the quality is amazing. It truly was a great museum. We then hit the Natural History (Grady insists it is unnatural history) and again, it exceeded expectations. The boys had a passport and would stamp each "level" with the appropriate stamps, from the mt. highlands to the plains people. next up was the fire arms museum. To be honest, the boys and I were done in under 45 minutes while dad and Steve took about 2 hours and still felt rushed. I have to equate it to looking at a quilt or coffee museum; while mom and I could spend hours reading about each nuisance, the guns all looked alike to us.

We then headed to a unique Cody attraction, the world famous miniature museum. This store consisted of over 7,000 SF of miniature reproductions, free to the pubic. Of course, we contributed a donation and bought a few trinkets from the store in our appreciation. The exhibit is a labor of lover for a father and son team, who feel it is their legacy to leave this exxhibit.

We then hit the Trail Town, which is a ghost town consisting of old houses from the region that have been rebuilt and moved. Included was some grave sites of famous mountain men, including Jeremy "Liver Eating" Johnson.

The evening festivities included sitting in the front row for the local "shoot out" in downtown Cody. The cast is mainly amateurs and the acting is certainly sub-par but the experience of sitting on the porch of the Irma Hotel and listening to Buffalo Bill and Wyatt Earp was priceless. The boys LOVED this little drama, aside from Grady being afraid of the loud noises.

After Steve picked out some cowboy boots from a local store, we headed to the world famous Cody rodeo. The rodeo consists of mainly amateur riders but it it was so much fun, Both the boys were hooting & hollering for the riders and it was a great night.

For the record, Cody rocks and I could easily live here. Great place!
