The Grand Tetons truly are a grand sight. The mountain range is drastic, tall, dramatic and impressive. We stopped at Jackson Lake Lodge and admired the view of a huge meadow where elk, bears and moose frequent. We ate our lunches while admiring the view of the granite peaks in the near distance.
We also stopped at the Craig Thomas Dicovery Center, a newly finished and impressive center with some high-tech exhibits that included screens on the floor simmulating a riverbed. It was a well designed building with large windows highlighting the mighty view.
We drove through Jackson and headed south to our campsite, a KOA called Snake River. Some dark clouds approached and followed us to our home for the next few nights. Luckily we were able to set up before the skies unleashed. It rained a steady stream for several minutes then we got a quick break. We loaded up into the van and headed into Jackson to walk around.
While there we stopped in several stores and mom & dad watched the kids while Steve & had a quick drink at the 10,000 Silver Dollar Cowboy Bar. The stools at this bar are actually saddles!
The rain started again and we headed back to our trailer. Thankfully we have a nice, spacious trailer that easily accomodated all of us for the evening. We actually let the boys watch a movie (the Muppets) while us adults talked in the living room.
Thankfully the rain stopped in the night and while it was a cilly morning, it was clear. We woke up early and checked in for the scenic rafting trip down the Snake River. Our guide, Deuce, was a GREAT guide, having fun with our boat and letting the boys each take a turn at rowing. It was an incredible morning, we saw 8 bald eagles and thoroughly enjoyed the outing. The boys loved the ride, even Grady, who came out of his shell and talked excessively with Deuce by the end of the trip.
After a quick lunch we loaded up and headed up to Teton Village. Like most ski areas during the summer, there are a few outdoors activities available on the mt. Colby enjoyed the bungee trampoline, but Grady backed out last minute. They then enjoyed playing in a fountain and walking around.
We spent the afternoon in Jackson again, hitting some more stores and continuing the search for Steve's hat (did not find it). We got our photos taken at the Old Time Photo place, dressing up like an outlaw band, which was a LOT of fun. Eventually we ended up at the famous Silver Dollar Grill at the Wort hotel. Fabulous dinner and even the boys liked it!
We are back at our campsite now, just cooked popcorn on the fire and enjoying the evening outside. It is getting cold and the boys are playing inside the trailer but we have all had a wonderful time here in Jackson Hole. I hope we get the chance to return here someday when there is snow!
