4 Mile Ghost Town

I will give props to this old roadside attraction for its sheer moxie and persistence. But it is really a sad collection of half-hearted restorations. The most redeeming quality by far was that voice of the old lady owner (who greeted us on arrival). She handed us an ancient tape deck (yes, cassette tape), which we paused and started as we walked though the dozens of buildings. Her readings (during which you could clearly hear page turnings and several mistakes) were actually entertaining. She was a very generous woman, who clearly loves these old buildings and has devoted her life to restoring what was, at best, a watering hole for carriages on their way through the area.
