8 am in sturgis

The sturgis rally has taken over the black hills. Our afternoon in deadwood was completely different than anticipated with thousands of bikers. It was fun but in a different way. More on that later...

So we decided to get just a taste of rally by scooting into sturgis this morning for breakfast. After driving through a virtually desolate town, with hundreds of tents, semi truck & trailers set up all over the town, we parked on main street. We had a good old greasy spoon breakfast at bob's family restaurant, which had a limited menu clearly intended to manage the masses that were sure to arrive later in the day.

By the time we finished breakfast, the bikers were starting to take over. We cruised a couple of blocks, in awe at some of what we saw. We shopped a little, buying some tshirts and a head wrap for grady. Figured it was time to leave when grady started reading tshirts that said "kiss my a**" outloud.

We were out of sturgis by 9:15, having just tasted a very mild piece of what the party was all about. We could certainly understand the magnitude of how the city transforms for the rally, and it is likely the only taste we'll ever get.
