Oh Cody, you are certainly a wild place still. Perhaps nothing brings this point home quite like what shall now be called the horse incident.
On our way into the KOA this morning we passed a veterinary clinic a block or so from the campground. Colby noticed a horse lying on the ground on its side in the back parking lot. He swears its a real horse and we are like, "sure kid, right." Nobody else saw it that first trip in so we all assumed it was a either a fake horse or he was mistaken. We made a few other trips out today (To WalMart for fishing licenses and radios, to the Cody Museum and then to dinner at Irma's Hotel). Finally on our last trip in for the night, we all look to see this supposed horse. In zooming by we all saw the horse on its side but were convinced it was fake. I mean, why would there be a real dead horse in the parking lot? That would just be weird. Convinced it must be a practice statue or something, we convince dad to turn around go back. So in we roll to the parking lot, laughing and giggling about this silly horse..... When we realize it is actually a really real dead horse. Seriously. Somebody had left a real dead horse in the parking lot of the vet clinic. Not just odd but disturbing. I guess things in the country are a little more real.
Thankfully the remainder of the day in Cody went well. Grady kept Steve and dad on a strict timeline in the gun museum and we all enjoyed both the Buffalo Bill and the Plains Indians exhibit. We ate a prime rib dinner at Irma's, the famous Buffalo Bill hotel. It was ok, the service sow and a little full of attitude. But the ambiance is fun and the place historic. We walked a little ways down the Main Street and popped into a few shops but want to get an early nit. Have to be up and rolling by 6:30 tomorrow morning to make it out to Jakes ranch on time.
We just finished going through our bags and are thankful we did. Steve and I had our stuff in waterproof bags but I guess they aren't waterproof when floating in inches of water in the bed of the truck. Had to make a quick stop into the laundry room here to get things dried out and replaced. Just glad we checked tonight.
Everyone is antsy to get started on the trip and there are a few nerves as well. Mostly from me and Steve about if the kids are going to be OK. I am sure they will be but the unknown is always a little nerve wracking. Tomorrow we will know for sure how we all do on this mule pack trip.
I'll post again on Friday. Happy trails...
