It was a dark and stormy night

First day of our most excellent adventure brought a little over 400 miles of mostly I90 driving. Not exactly our favorite road to travel and only made worse by the fact that we drive the first 150 miles a lot on our way to Anatone. In fact, when crossing the Vantage bridge, the truck had an automatic pull to the right like a horse going to stable. But once we passed Vantage, at least the road was somewhat less familiar and therefore more interesting for the boys. Spokane had a lot of unexplainable traffic that slowed us down a bit.

Not that we are in a hurry or anything, but only 2 stops the entire day and one of those included fuel. In general the ride was fine. We are all anxious to get started on this trip and day one and 2 are basically just getting there. After an hour long conference call I had to make (with strict instructions to the boys to be quiet) it was clear we were all on a little edge. You know you need a break when the volume of carrot chewing from the back seat puts you over the edge. Heard a few, "do I need to pull this truck over" and "don't think I can't reach you" but they were soon replaced with laughs and jokes.

We finally arrived in the little fishing haven of St. Regis MT. We stayed at the Nugget RV resort a couple years ago in our way out to Yellowstone. And we enjoyed the park and service as much this time around. Great little RV park for anyone traveling through Montana on 90 who wants to avoid the city factor of Missoula.

First order of business after setting up camp was a trip to the local shop. This place bills itself as the largest gift store in MT. Thankfully they also sell fresh huckleberry shakes so the men were satisfied while we shopped. They also have an "aquarium" of trout and a talking moose head. Mom bought a lime green cowboy hat (so cute on her and so completely her) and we all left with bellies full of huckleberry treats.

After waiting the appropriate 30 minutes (not) we returned to camp and the boys jumped in the pool, which was thoughtfully placed directly behind our trailer. It was 93 degrees out and that pool surely felt good. So good that even grandma jumped in, and i do mean she jumped in the pool. She sure is brave but just went for it. She said it was incredibly refreshing and cooled her down.

A swarm of meat thirsty bees kept us from enjoying our taco dinner fresco so we tucked into the motorhome to eat. Our intention was to sit outside and enjoy a few games of Farkle (Farkle!!!!!) but nature had different plans in store for us.

First came the dark cloud, blotting out that overly hot sun, not a bad thing really. Then the humidity rolled in and a few, fat drops started plopping on our picnic table. Next thing we knew, lightening was striking all around us. It was a magnificent storm and it absolutely poured all night. We moved the game into our trailer to continue for the night. Eventually Papa and Nana made their way through the raindrops and to bed. The storm continued throughout most of the night but it was really more awe inspiring than scary.

Broke camp this morning at 7 and on the road for another long haul. On our way to Red Lodge for the night.
