Galway Girl (and guys)

Today was one of the longest drives of our trip. Over 5 hours in the car, with a couple breaks but still on smaller roads with lots of twists and turns.

We ended up rolling into the village of Barna (just west of Galway) around 5 pm. Our hotel, The Twelve, was probably my favorite of our trip. It is located on the corner of this village just across the street from the bay. It has an old stone tower that adds to the charm of a castle hotel but it completely modern inside. Unique artwork, upscale restaurant and bar and a family "suite" featuring the first King bed we have seen on this trip (and a separate room with 2 sofas that made into beds for the boys) made this place a winner.

For our first dinner in Galway, we made our way into this easy city and found a seafood place on the port, overlooking boats in the harbor. It was a grey and rainy evening but the food made up for the drizzle. Fresh fish (including John Dory), the BEST fish and chips of the trip and great service made this an unforgettable dinner.

The rest of the evening was taken up cruising around downtown historic Galway. The rain and cold didn't dampen the vibe in downtown at all. Still lots of people, music and shopping.
