I have no idea if that is the correct way to say “Hello from Hot Mexico” but that is what I mean. It was in the high 90’s for most of our day in Cozumel but it was a lot of fun.
We started the day by boarding a graciously air conditioned bus that drove us to a private beach club called Playa Mia. Our wristband included entry into this very clean and well-serviced beach club, unlimited drinks, use of the water toys (kayaks, paddle boats, etc.), swimming area and lunch. We immediately settled ourselves onto lounges with umbrellas and ordered some margaritas from Angel, our friendly gold-toothed waiter. Angel took good care of us throughout the day, fetching us a table for our drinks and supplying us with plenty of bottled water and margaritas.
The water was amazingly blue and the beach was very nice. It was sort of crowded and we can’t seem to get away from the Quincinera groups but all in all it was a great afternoon. The lunch was fantastic and while we did not partake in the water sports, we did get our picture taken holding 2 beautiful parrots (named Pamela and Tommy Lee).
We then took a taxi into town to do some shopping. The most dangerous part about shopping in Cozumel is the “free” margaritas they pour you as you browse the jewelry cases. With the heat already blistering, it was easy to see how tourists get caught into making purchases they hadn’t intended to make.
That said, I went with a specific purpose of finding a silver and turquoise necklace. I found a beautiful set and managed to bring home a couple of other trinkets as well. Steve got a new belt and a couple shirts. As usual, we bought more stuff for our boys, including some bracelets with their names woven into the bands.
Around 3 pm I started to feel a little woozy from the heat so we took a break and snacked on some authentic Mexican food in a little restaurant off the main street. It was air conditioned, which was the best part and did not have the words “froggies” or “margarita” in it’s name. Good food and amazingly cheap.
We were back on board by 5:30 and the ship left shortly thereafter. We spent the evening having another good dinner with great company, then enjoyed another game show activity called the Quest and an 80’s dance party. By midnight we were dead on our feet so we called it a night.
