Winchester Bay

Our campsite is incredibly beautiful, surrounded on 3 sides by water. We checked in around 2:00 and quickly set up camp on a large corner lot. The waves are breaking over a rock wall a few feet from the back of our trailer. The bathrooms and laundry are new and spotless. Best of all - there is SUN!

It may not be short-wearing sun, but it is sunshine all the same and we are so grateful to see it again. We've been told that the week has been brutal so far but the 2 days were are here will be clear and sunny.
After setting up (and Colby taking a few laps on his bike), we met up with the Nelson crew. their campground (Discovery Pt) happens to be about 1/2 mile down the road. But it might as well be on another planet. They are staying in the ATV-friendly end of the camping spectrum, where the loud thrum of throttles can be heard at a constant tone. It is also packed like sardines in their campground and green lawn seems to be in short supply. Nobody complains there, though, because ther are all focused on getting out onto the dunes for some thrill seeking. And the variety of machines, people, gear, etc. is mind boggling.

We spent a couple hours hanging out with Todd, Catie, Brendan and Nick. They (and the other families they are camping with) were great hosts and we had a fun visit. Brenden played with Colby & Grady until we thought they were all going to pass out. Highlights included climbing a tree, digging in the dirt and getting to go for a ride with Nick on the quad (just around the block).

After a while we loaded all of us into the truck and drove down to the local pizza place (Bedrocks) for some surpringly good pizza (I recommend the All-In) and beer. As always, we had great conversation, good stories and lots of laughs with the Nelsons. The boys had to try their hand at the vending machine stuffed animal claw game (just what we needed - another silly looking bear). But everyone had fun.
