Custer State Park

We allowed Colby to sleep in this morning, getting a later start to our day. We first went to Custer state park with the purpose of hunting some bison.

After a steep, twisty and breath-taking drive down the Needles Highway, we made it into the park. Almost immediately we found a large herd of buffalo staking claim on an RV park / camp. I am so glad we were not ones in the middle of that mess. Bulls were licking screen windows, chewing on laundry and pooping in the middle of people's tent sites. Plus, nobody could leave because the bison can be really dangerous. Thankfully the VW provided enough protection for us to tour around and zip out.

We then spent a good 2 hours driving around the park, catching sites of another herd and antelope. The park is large, covering several hundred acres. It was beautiful but the kids didn't have a lot of patience for driving in the hot van. Eventually we made our way out and into keystone.
