Custer's Last Stand / Hardin MT

Erin and I are taking turns with the blog, so this is my turn (chris). Broke camp at 8 am heading for Hardin, Mt. At our stop in Butte, Mt., the boys come on over into our rig and entertain us with their musings and insights. The boys and I each work on our travel journals--Theirs are great! And both uniquely who they are. By 2:15 the noise has stopped and I look back to find them both crashed on the sofa(in their seat belts). They seem to enjoy riding sideways, playing "kick your brother" on the couch, and eating @ the table while moving down the road.
Montana's wide open spaces, rocky cliffs, and rolling hills are beautiful viewed under sunny skies and 83 degree temp. We pass coal mining operations with huge piles of the deep black, velvety looking "powder". Railcar after railcar is loaded with it. I wonder where it's going?
The Battle of Little Bighorn National Park. Wow! A step back in time, and even more so for Steve and Erin who have read several books on the life of Custer. It's fascinating to hear them relate various details of his story. Even Colby and Grady checked out books and watched a video on Custer's last stand, just before coming. To stand at the top of the hill where the "Monument to the Fallen" commemorates this loss of life, moves you when you see the scope of this battle. Steve, especially, could have spent hours here.
