After several hours in the car (one of the longer days) we arrived in Grand Coulee (Electric City) around 2:30 pm. We did not have resrvations but were assured on the phone that we wouldn't have any problems on a Monday. We arrived at the Coullee Playland Park, a real dive. It was one of the worst campgrounds, despite a good rating in the Woodall's book. it did have a boat launch and fishing facilities, which likely boosted its rating. However, they made us share a site: parked head-to-tail with each other, there was maybe 4 feet of room between our doors. Good thing we like these neighbors!
After setting up camp we headed to the dam center to get the dam tour (that never gets old). The center was great for kids, with several hands-on exhibits including a jack-hammer. it was impressive to learn about the magnitude of the dam and the construction of it. We spent a littel while driving around trying to find the "town" but were not too successful. Middle. of. nowhere.
We returned to the site, made some dinnner (leftover mix) and enjoyed a hot summer evening. Around 9 pm we set out for the laser show, heading to the grand-stand area just in front of the visitor center. Steve and I saw this show in college and mom claims she and Mary saw it a little while ago. Well, things have a-changed. The new show was... hokey to put it best. My memories included incridible visuals of 737's and photos being displayed with fireworks. This was way more along the lines of stick figures narrated by overly dramatic voices. Sort of dissapointing to those of us who had seen it previously. Grady nodded off a couple times but Colby liked the show. All in all, not too bad and glad we did it. Just lower your expectations...
The next morning we stopped in Wenatchee on the way home to visit Papa Chuck. Got a tour of the hospital, visited for a few and made our way home.
It was a great trip, filled with lots of fun and active times. We are so blessed!
