Blue Lagoon

This was a part of the trip that I was most looking forward to. And aside from a few normal, big crowd kind of issues, this was an amazing experience.

We were told to walk out to the bus at 8:15 to catch the 8:30 bus to the Blue Lagoon. Thankfully we were a little earlier than that and we nabbed the last 4 seats. What just happened? But it all worked out and off we went on a 45 minute drive to the Blue Lagoon. The bus was quiet except for a loud mouthed group of Americans sitting behind us. Ugh!

Being last on the bus meant we were in the back and thus the last to depart. And in the back of the line to check our luggage before entering the Blue Lagoon officially. Thankfully we had reservations for the private exclusive suites so the time wasn't an issue.

After checking in we were escorted to a floor of private suites that locked with our bracelet. We were able to change and store our belongings in the rooms while we enjoyed the lagoon. We also had a private entrance, food and a free drink included. We quickly showered, donned our swimsuits and plunged into the silica rich waters of the lagoon.

When we entered it was still pre-dawn and the steam from the water made it impossible to see past 4 feet. It was quiet, calming and eternally magical. We saw the sun rise behind a veil of steam, slathered silica mud on our faces and melted away stress while being massaged on floating foam mattresses. That massage was one of the most unique experiences I have had and it left me feeling very cozy and warm (despite a small mix-up over our massage appointment times).

At 12:30 we showered and exited the suites, making our way to the restaurant for lunch. Kevin and Anne had massages for 1:30 so they had a quick bite and then went back into the pool. We lingered longer than we wanted at lunch (slow service) and did a little shopping and walking around.

We all caught the 3:15 bus back the Reykjavik, which turned into a smaller bus to our hotel. We arrive at the Icelandair Marina at around 4:30.
