We woke up at around 7:30 and after a few attempts to rally the troops, we enjoyed probably the best hotel breakfast i have ever encountered. The restaurant here is legit, full on fancy. So nice that I am questioning if we have clothes nice enough to have dinner here. Ragardless, the breakfast was off the charts amazeballs. It had pancakes, crepes, bacon, several cheeses, several sausages, bacon, a dozen different pastries, hard boiled eggs, 3 different cured fish, careals, yogurt, fresh juices and even..... champaign. Fresh coffee and smoothies too. It was a great start to the day.
Bellies full, we spilled onto the quiet streets of Geneva in search of some historical an religous icons to be found in old town (Vielle Ville). After about a mile we found the Reformers Wall, which is a giant relief depicting champions of the Reformation, at least in the Swiss limited view. Sure, Calvin was there as the prominant one but Luther and Sweize were relagated to off shoulder smaller monuments in name only. Still, the wall is impressive and feel pilgrem-like to the Presbyterians.
We then sought to folllow a path recommended by one of the books I read but in all honestly we found our own path shortly after and it was the best decision anyway to follow our hearts. We meandered around the hotel where the Geneva government for Canton (state) affairs is held. Found ourselves amidst some old cannons and beautiful mosiacs before snaking around steep and winding roads to find the most glorious church. The cathedral of St Pierre is the largest point on the right bank. After enjoiying the stained glass and butresses we saw a small sign indicating we could tour the bell tower for a feee.
Fourteen francs later we climbed hundreds (felt like more) steep, narrow and very enclosed steps to finally emerge upon a balcony with a stunning view of the city and the lake. And then we climbed dozens more to an even steeper and more stunning view. The whole experience felt like we got away with something because it was absolutely stunning, very unpopulated and worth every franc.
On the walk back we ended up in the Victorinox store, aka the Swiss Army Knife store. The options were endless and impressive. After some time, we ended up purchasing some beauties that we now only have to remember to pack before boarding so we don't lose them.
Walking back to the hotel we stopped at a true macroon store, where we selected a cool dozen of deluxe macroons and snacks.
